  • The Committee has partnered with the Bloomfield office of the Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS). May is National Foster Care Month we initiated "Suitcases for Kids" (an NAR recommended program) Most of the time when children are removed from their homes they are confused and scared. Unfortunately a caseworker is throwing some of the childs possessions in a plastic garbage bag. We had a suitcase drive and collected over 350 gently used or new suitcases, duffels and backpacks. The public was more than helpful everyday we arrived to find suitcase on the porch of the Board Office. We were also able to fill these suitcases with toiletries bags with toothpaste/brushes, combs and personal items.
  • During one holiday season we were given a list of 326 children in the DYFS who were in need of a small holiday gift. WEBOR had a fund drive and collected enough money to assure that every child on the list was able to have a surprise gift.
  • "Just Sweaters" collection of gently used or new sweaters for those who need help keeping warm. The committee sorts and organizes the sweaters making sure all are clean and wearable. The sweaters are given to a charity organization named "Tri-City Peoples" located in Newark. They are distributed in a local park, the distribution starts approximately 10:00 am and people usually start to line up about 8:00 am. Our yearly total collection is approximately 400 plus sweaters.
  • Due to word of mouth about the WEBOR Community Service Committee a member of the public who had several thousand new children’s books contacted the WEBOR Community Service Committee. The committee went with several SUVs and picked up all of the books sorted them and worked with the Irvington office DYFS who sponsors a pre-school book giveaway in a local Livingston park to encourage childhood literacy.
  • We have a "Suitcases for Babies" project DYFS has a need for infant diaper bags for babies who go directly from the hospital to foster care. Donated diapers, wipes, pacifiers etc. wee collected to fill these bags.
